Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens
For the plant lover a visit to Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, situated at the backdrop of Table Mountain, is a must. In spring most of the fynbos plants are flowering. In Kirstenbosch only plants of Southern Africa can be seen. This collection is renowned throughout the world. Take your time while discovering the gardens in the heart of the floral kingdom.
During summer the gardens are used for concerts on Sunday afternoons. Furthermore a fine collection of Zimbabwean Shona sculptures is another highlight at
Kirstenbosch. In 1902 Cecil John Rhodes donated 528 ha of his properties for a botanical garden. The old avenue of camphor and fig tress was planted by Cecil John Rhodes and can still be seen. Only 10% of the whole property is cultivated.

Groot Constantia
In the vicinity of the gardens the oldest wine estate in the country, Groot Constantia, awaits visitors. Groot Constantia was started by governor Simon van der Stel in 1685. There are other wine estates in the vicinity for example Klein Constantia (1716).

Rhodes Memorial
This memorial can be found just off the M3 close to the University of the Cape. Rhodes Memorial was founded to remember the famous politician Cecil John Rhodes (1863-1902), who dreamt of a colonial empire from Cape Town to Cairo. From the memorial you can enjoy wonderful views of Cape Town. The memorial is situated in a pine forest. Hikes, picnic areas and a coffee shop can be found. Cecil John Rhodes died in Muizenberg in 1902 and was buried in Matopos National Park near Bulawayo in Zimbabwe.
