Table Mountain

accommodation, activities...

This massive mountain range, about 6000 hectares in size, has emerged from the sea about 250 million years ago. In 1957 Table Mountain was declared a national monument. The nature reserve boasts some 1470 different plant species. Most of them are endemic which means that they don’t occur any where else.

The journey with the modern cable car to the top of the mountain is an unforgettable experience. While the platform in the cable car turns you can enjoy a view of 360 degrees.
The more energetic can also climb up the mountain. Please be careful, the strong winds are dangerous! Or better take a guide for this trip. Always take a sweater or jacket with you. Even in summer time it can be quite cool on top of the mountain.
While walking on the top you'll have a good chance to see Rock Dassies, small mammals that are related to the elephant.
Many locals like to enjoy sunset on the mountain. But you won't be alone - a visit to Table Mountain is a must for each visitor to South Africa...
The views from Table Mountain into Cape Town, along the coastline etc. are awesome and shouldn't be missed. Unfortunately the cable car doesn't operate in difficult weather situations like stormy weather or fog. Be flexible and always check the weather situation! Even if you don't make it to the top you can enjoy beautiful views from the lower station.
On top of the mountain there are several trails and a restaurant.
