Springbok
On
your way from Cape Town to Namibia Springbok is the last "bigger"
settlement before you reach the border.
The distance to Cape Town is
560 km and Windhoek -920 km - is still far away. Therefore many people
like to stay here voernight. The little town of Springbok offers
different kind of accommodation for the visitor.
Goegap Nature Reserve
This nature reserve, 15
km from the town of Springbok, is also known for its wild
flowers in spring time. The sandy plateau between mountain peaks (up
to 1.345 m) is home to wild animals like Springbok, Oryx, jackal
and zebra.
 Some of the roads need a 4x4. Many people go their to enjoy the trails
(4 to 12 km).
Namaqua National Park
This national park is
situated 500 km north of Cape Town near the Atlantic Ocean. Namaqualand is famous for its carpets of wild flowers (approx. 3.500
species) that occur after the winter rains. This annual event can usually be seen in August/September. It also contains the Silkpad
Wildflower Reserve and the ecosystem between the rivers Groen
and Spoeg. Namaqua National Park is also a retreat to
wild animals like Klipspringer, baboon and leopard. Enjoy the nature
on a trail or on a drive.
Richtersveld National Park
Richtersveld
is meanwhile part of the Peace Park concept. Nowadays it
belongs to
the Richtersveld/Ai-Ais Transfrontier Conservation Area that
includes the mighty Fish River Canyon in Namibia. Most roads are
only accessible by 4x4.
The scenery in Richtersveld is rugged and climbs constantly
from the Orange River
valley up to high mountains. Only flora and fauna
adapted to desert conditions can be seen here. Giant aloes and quiver
trees occur. From April to September some offroad-trails (4x4) are
