Towards the end of the 16th
century Walvis Bay was first mentioned as "Bahia dos Bahleas" which
means bay of the whales. Until
 1994 Walvis
Bay –the only natural harbour of the Namibian coastline - was still
part of
South
Africa. Today this important industrial town has a population of
approximately 50.000.
