Kruger National Park is the most important game reserve in South Africa. On an area of approximately 20.000 km² a huge variety of wildlife occurs. This national park is home to 147 species of mammals and up to 500 species of birds can be spotted. From North to South the park stretches for 320km, its width is 60km in average.
The Kruger National Park map shows you the main roads (tarred!) and the fully serviced camps.
In the late 19^th century there was extensive hunting in the Lowveld. This is why president Paul Kruger decided to protect the area between the Crocodile and Sabie rivers for game to roam freely. From the early beginning Skukuza was the main camp of the game reserve. From here Kruger Park developed to its actual size.
The new international airport KMIA (Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport) has been established between White River and Nelspruit in Mpumalanga - only a stonethrow away from Kruger National Park.
Along the Western boundary of Kruger National Park many private game reserves have been established. Most of these private reserves are offering a luxurious stay in the bush and are very famous with tourists.
Even within Kruger National Park several private lodge offer an exclusive wildlife experience.

Please be aware that malaria can occur throughout Kruger Park. Take your precautions and enquire with your doctor before entering the area.
