Sabie
...is an attractive little town with atmosphere (malaria free). From here the scenic wonders of the Panorma Route can be discovered in a day tour. Kruger National Park is just an hour’s drive away. The set up of Sabie with mountains in the backdrop is beautiful.
As many other towns also Sabie was founded in the 19^th century when gold was found nearby. The mines closed and intensive forestry replaced it as a source of income.

Bridal Veil & Lone Creek Falls
Two waterfalls (Bridal Veil & Lone Creek) can be enjoyed just outside town.

Mac-Mac Falls
While travelling from Sabie to Pilgrim’s Rest don’t forget to visit MacMac Falls.

Long Tom Pass
The R37 from Lydenburg to Sabie is known for its breathtaking mountain scenery.
The Long Tom Pass -which is often covered in mist- is known as one of the highest passes (2.150m) in South Africa.
It was named after the canons used by the Boers during the Anglo-Boer wars. The Boers had two of these canons installed at the height of the mountain pass.
This mountain passes is often covered in mist. If not you can enjoy breathtaking sceneries and lovely views down to the Sabie valley.

Dullstroom and Lydenburg
A nice stopover -to have a snack or do some shopping- on your way to Panorama Route (or back to Gauteng) is the picturesque village of Dullstroom where trout fishing is popular.
Another possibility for a stop is Lydenburg which offers also nice coffee shops.
The town of Lydenburg was laid out after Ohrigstad was affected by malaria. Some buildings are still remembering the gold rush of the 19th century (old school building 1851 and Dutch-reformed church 1852).
