If you plan a selfdrive
tour to Namibia you should hold an international driver's licence.
When entering Namibia your passport has to be valid for at least six
months after your prospected date of departure.
Take enough to drink in your car. The countryside is barely populated
and the distances are huge. Also take into consideration that
-especially during winter months- sunset is quite early (around
17.30h). Try to avoid driving at night. Game is plentiful throughout
the country and some major antelopes -like Kudu- can cause terrific
accidents. Warthogs are difficult to recognize in high grass. So plan
your trip safely and talk to your hosts about it.
The gravel roads can be dangerous as well if your are not used to it.
So drive carefully and try to avoid sudden movements with your car.
Always slow down in a smooth way. The raods are fairly straight with
not too many curves. If you cannot see which way the road proceeds
watch the polls of the telephone line.
If you are entering farming areas you have to open gates to get on the
properties. Please don't forget to close these gates afterwards.
Otherwise the farmer has to search for his lifestock...
