Oshakati is the capital
of the Ovamboland - a former homeland - in the far North of Namibia. Almost half of the
population of the country is living here. This is one of the few
regions of Namibia that get regular rainfall.
From the new King Nehale Gate of Etosha National Park you
can enter this interesting area from. The Gate is located close to
the Andoni waterhole.
You can visit several community based crafts projects. For example
85 km south of Ondangwa you will find the Tulongeni Craft
Market in Omuthiya and in Onenongo - 20 km northwest of
Oshakati - is the Ndilimani Pottery Porject.
The Nakambale Museum is located 10 km south of Ondangwa.
This former Finnish mission station shows the work of the
well-known Finnish missionary Martti Rautanen and gives you
an idea about the culture of the Ovampo peoble.
Tsandi Royal Homestead shows the traditional lifestyle of
the royal family.
The Ruacana Waterfalls can only be seen in their natural
